Anchor Bleu

Bosham

Tel: 01243 573956
Told by a guest it's very good pub food.

Comments 2011

As I flick through the pages of our restaurant view book which the guests have filled in, I can see some very favourable comments - think we must be lucky to find so many different restaurants nearby

The Anchor Bleu is in Bosham - beautiful village which you can either drive to, or take a ferry from the bottom of the road in Itchenor and then have a good walk.  Bosham is steeped in history and the church is well worth a visit.

"Highly recommended - especially on the verandah at high tide!!  Delicious food with lots of choice - especially seafood"

"Reliable - great crab and crayfish salad.  Gets very full at lunchtime - go early.  Great views".

"Crayfish tartlet very good.  Greek salad very good.  Decent merlot and good cask veers.  Proper Pub Atmos:

"Anchor Bleu at Bosham is excellent"

The Beach House

West Wittering

Tel: 01243 514800

New owners end of 2012.

Opening times vary according to season.
Reasonably priced. Often children in restaurant:  best to book as quite small.  Some guests find a bit noisy.  Outside tables as well.

Taken from my 'Local Restaurant Reviews' which my guests add to...

"There at lunchtime - our ciabatta were good and we ogled at the more substantial meals served either side of us.  From the road the place looked less promising than we had envisaged but inside was lovely with genuine 'beach house' decor".

"Excellent.  Ate there twice in our four day stay.  Food tasty and well cooked, very pleasant room, no - or low - music (a big plus) and SUCH good staff.  Can they open in Kent?"

"Open all day (high summer) - a plus when you're cycling, it's 4pm and one of you fancies tea and cake, and the other a cold beer and calamari!  Good vibe and friendly, helpful staff".

Idyllic spot near Pagham Harbour. Part of the Royal Oak Group.    Excellent meal, portions on small side and almost 90% fish with a constantly changing menu.

"The Crab & Lobster is worth searching out!  Lovely setting down windy lanes. I haven't edited out the bad reviews, so I think they just say it all!"

"Excellent, lovely food and beautifully presented".

"Excellent food, well-staffed, good atmosphere.  Highly recommended"

"Superb, varied and unusual menu.  More expensive than most other options, but worth it.  Went with our two young children"

"Lovely setting next to Pagham Harbour - do take the time to go and admire the views before dinner.  The food's exquisite and beautifully presented.  Quite expensive but worth it if you want a treat."

"Fantastic meal - could eat there every night - even though there was a 'do' on in the garden, service was superb"

Bar and restaurant.  Some positive feedback.  Smart casual.  Crunch menu and a la carte: good food but lacking in visitors!

Crown and Anchor

Dell Quay

About the only one right on the water – remember it’s mud if it’s low tide! – lovely spot for a drink at high water.  Recent feedback on food was mixed –‘slow and indifferent’ and also ‘enjoyed the pub food’……

Just goes to show that everyone is different.  I hesitated putting on a rather adverse comment, but not everywhere suits all the guests and people do get a very different experience - on the whole the comments were positive.

"Great waterside pub - a really good boozer.  Just popped in for a drink but the food looked like solid pub grub.  A beer - battered fish and chips looked to die for and the hog roast might have tempted us back if it wasn't for a family gathering!"

"Good!  Yummy food, nice booze, close to the sea.  Quite busy but a vote of success, no doubt".

"Has the potential to be a lovely place but disappointed with staff and over priced food.  Lovely location and barbeque good idea but closed early".

"We sat right in the middle of a huge bow window overlooking the creek as the tide came in and the sun set.  Pub grub (they seemed to specialise in fish dishes).  A lovely atmosphere and an unexpected find. "

"Great position but food disappointing.  Chips awful, whitebait overcooked and fish rather greasy.  Would NOT go again"

Amelie

Amelie

Good place for colourful lunches:  simple salads and a few hot dishes too sitting in the garden space outside (white tables very bright in the sun!), olive trees.  Yummy pastries too.   A bit of an oasis in the midst of Chichester.  Changed hands in 2012.

Comments from 2011

Amelie's in North Street, Chichester. "Delicious varitety of small dishes - or should that be a variety of small, delicious dishes?  Excellent staff.  No music.  Modest prices.  We'll be back.  We went on night they closed at 7pm - ideal for pre-theatre"

Comments from guests 2012:
"This is an excellent place to eat before a trip to the theatre.  Menu was interesting and our meals were delicious, if quite expensive.  Staff were lovely"

"Early dinner before the theatre.  Excellent meal - pea and mint risotto - sensible portions"

"Friendly new owner, very stylish inside.  Evening opening now with good menu (3 choices only for each starter, main and pud).  Enjoyed the food which was beautifully presented.  Could have done with slightly bigger portions."

"Everyone who worked here was very friendly and offered to jiggle the lunch time menu around to give more veggie choice - absolutely delicious.  The whole meal was a real treat.  It was the most expensive meal we had out, but it really was special."

Open early, close at 7pm except for Thurs, Fri and Saturday when later:

These are gleaned from the book which I leave out for my guests to scribble in - useful for all who visit our b & b near West Wittering.

The Ship Inn is in Itchenor on Chichester Harbour....

"Food good, portions enormous.  Good wines by the glass.  No music and liked relaxed atmosphere and friendly service"

"What a convenient watering hole just 10 minutes walk (from Church Gate).  the place never failed to surprise us and delight us.  Good food, at very reasonable prices and attentive staff.  What more could you ask for?"

"Very handy with a nice stroll to the harbour before and after the substantial meal!  Friendly service too".

"A good location - 10 minutes walk and two minutes from the harbour afterwards.  Efficient service and wholesome, hot food".

"OK, just typical pub food and not too expensive".

"Good beer, friendly staff.  From the plates of food we saw coming out, the fish and chips seemed to be the thing to go for and it was very good!"

"Convenient.  Had one great meal, one terrible.  HUGE portions!  Pleasant staff.  Don't go on a Sunday".

"Great service and good quality food and walking distance.

"Same thoughts as many others.  Nice atmosphere, large portions and good service considering how busy it was".
