The Lamb, West Wittering

One to watch for 2013!  The pub was taken over in November 2012 by Dave Skinner (who also runs Samphire) in partnership with Jim Robertson.  Since then they've had a quick repaint and a welcoming fire has been burning in the grate with delicious food on the menu.

As I write this the pub is about to close for a large renovation so will await developments and see what they've achieved when they reopen in March.  I've heard that Anthony is joining the team as the new chef at that time.

Comments from my guests 2011 - The Royal Oak

Again, taken from our restaurant review book which is left out for the guests to add to....

The Royal Oak, East Lavant - this is about 20 minutes drive from Church Gate and is therefore not quite on our doorstep

"Unusual scene, very good food, large choice for lunch"

Thought I'd put in a few comments from my guests which were notched up during the past year...

Samphire - great little restaurant in East Wittering, mecca of kite and wind surfers, within stone's throw of the beach, bookings essential

'Driftwood urban chic!  It's a must.  This place will go from strength to strength.  Good food, great wine list, desserts not to be missed.  Freshly baked mini loaves served on an old wine box tray, what more can you want?  When the sun sets over West Wittering, then go and enjoy the rising star that is Samphire...!  Enjoy"

"Exceptionally friendly service"

"Very good and had nice atmosphere"

"Another very good place.  Food and service faultless;  prices sensible;  music could have been quieter but wasn't obtrusive.  Warning - don't sit in front of the door if there's a brisk evening wind - or take a jumper!"

"Really Good!  Great wine list, nice homely food and excellent service"

"Couldn't get into Samphire"

"Very good ambience - had perfectly cooked lamb cutlets but far too much gravy"

"Delightful, eccentric, nice staff.  Went to locals night on a Monday and fantastic value.  Music, great food.  Go there!"

"Very tasty food and very reasonably priced.  Took our two young children"

"Fantastic food - a wonderful 24hr roast pork belly, great portion sizes, delicious scallops for starter.  Welcoming atmosphere and warm ambience.  Make it your first port of call, book early and you certainly won't be disappointed.  Can't wait to go again.

"Our top choice - great food particularly the chowder.  Comfortable and friendly"

"Delicious food.  Generous portions.  Interesting menu.  Unintrusive service.  Well worth a visit"

"Glad we'd booked to go here as quite a few people were being turned away on a Sat night.  Food was lovely, wine reasonably priced, service good.  Would definitely recommend"

"Beautiful food...nice to eat a meal which s better than something we could have cooked at home.  Despite being full to the brim we still managed a dessert which was not only delicious, but also light"

"Had two evening meals here, both beautiful"

"What a delightful place - they deserve to do well.  The fish was so fresh and well cooked"

"A most enjoyable meal - make sure you book"

"Fabulous food, fabulous atmosphere and reasonably priced.  Best meal of our stay"

"Ate twice at Samphire - different class from others nearby - excellent both times - NZ sauvignon blanc....mmmmm.  Definitely good value for money"

Anchor Bleu

Bosham

Tel: 01243 573956
Told by a guest it's very good pub food.

Comments 2011

As I flick through the pages of our restaurant view book which the guests have filled in, I can see some very favourable comments - think we must be lucky to find so many different restaurants nearby

The Anchor Bleu is in Bosham - beautiful village which you can either drive to, or take a ferry from the bottom of the road in Itchenor and then have a good walk.  Bosham is steeped in history and the church is well worth a visit.

"Highly recommended - especially on the verandah at high tide!!  Delicious food with lots of choice - especially seafood"

"Reliable - great crab and crayfish salad.  Gets very full at lunchtime - go early.  Great views".

"Crayfish tartlet very good.  Greek salad very good.  Decent merlot and good cask veers.  Proper Pub Atmos:

"Anchor Bleu at Bosham is excellent"

The Beach House

West Wittering

Tel: 01243 514800

New owners end of 2012.

Opening times vary according to season.
Reasonably priced. Often children in restaurant:  best to book as quite small.  Some guests find a bit noisy.  Outside tables as well.

Taken from my 'Local Restaurant Reviews' which my guests add to...

"There at lunchtime - our ciabatta were good and we ogled at the more substantial meals served either side of us.  From the road the place looked less promising than we had envisaged but inside was lovely with genuine 'beach house' decor".

"Excellent.  Ate there twice in our four day stay.  Food tasty and well cooked, very pleasant room, no - or low - music (a big plus) and SUCH good staff.  Can they open in Kent?"

"Open all day (high summer) - a plus when you're cycling, it's 4pm and one of you fancies tea and cake, and the other a cold beer and calamari!  Good vibe and friendly, helpful staff".
